Imperial Topaz

Imperial Topaz – an exquisite and one of the most coveted varieties of topaz, enchanting with its warm, rich hues: from golden-yellow and peach to pinkish-orange, reddish, and deep cognac ("sherry"). This is the most valuable *natural* color of topaz, historically associated with wealth and prestige, which likely gave it the name "Imperial".

Its deposits are extremely limited, with the most famous and classic located in the Ouro Preto region, Brazil. Smaller finds are possible in Pakistan.

This precious gemstone forms primarily in pegmatites and high-temperature quartz veins, and is also found in alluvial deposits. Its unique and stable coloration (unlike some other topazes whose color may fade over time) is due to impurities of chromium and, to a lesser extent, iron in its crystal lattice.
