Dendritic agate is a captivating variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz), known for its delicate, tree-like, fern-like, or moss-like inclusions. These enchanting patterns, known as dendrites, typically consist of manganese or iron oxides that penetrate the stone during its formation. They create a striking contrast against the milky-white, grayish, or translucent agate, forming unique natural landscapes within the mineral.
The formation process of dendritic agate involves the slow seepage of silica-rich solutions into rock cavities or fissures. During the gradual crystallization of agate, dissolved manganese and iron impurities precipitate first or simultaneously with the silica, forming these astonishing branched structures. The cooling rate and concentration of impurities influence the complexity and appearance of the dendrites – from fine, barely visible branches to dense, saturated "thickets".

Due to its beauty and sufficient hardness (6.5-7 on the Mohs scale), dendritic agate is highly valued in jewelry making, especially for crafting cabochons, pendants, and ring inlays, which best showcase its internal patterns.
